Bed Bugs: Sleep tight with ProAction - Domestic and Business treated
Did you know, Bed bugs are one of the most difficult household pests to control? This is because they come out whilst you’re sleeping, hide in the minute of nooks and crannies, and in multiple areas, away from the host.
These insects can cause significant damage to business reputation, resulting in loss of revenue. They can also cause significant mental distress in some situations which can result in delusional parasitosis even after an infestation has been dealt with.
At ProAction Pest Control, you’re in safe hands. Our experienced technicians deliver tailored bed bug treatments for both homes and businesses, designed to target every stage of the infestation — from eggs through to adults — using a carefully balanced combination of approved chemical and non-chemical control methods.
Our experienced technicians carry out detailed inspections and create step-by-step treatment plans tailored to your property and identify the severity of infestation present, ensuring safe, effective and long-lasting control. Keep reading below to find out more.

Not all Bed Bug Treatments are the same
At ProAction, after decades of hands-on bed bug treatments and experimenting with a wide range of products and application methods, we’ve carefully refined our approach so our bed bug treatments are consistently the most effective, which has resulted in our ability to deliver even better results while using fewer chemicals overall!
Many competitors use only one of the two primary bed bug control methods — either chemical (insecticide) treatment or heat treatment. While each can eliminate an infestation on its own, we have found that combining elements of both approaches produces the best results, for the following reasons:
Chemicals (insecticide) CANNOT penetrate the egg of a Bed Bug
- This means, the eggs still need to hatch before the possibility of the insecticide working.Heat Treatment results in cold spots (but if hot enough will eradicate the eggs)
- This means it will not kill the Bed Bugs or eggs in that area, and as the room slowly heats up the Bed Bugs can migrate towards the cold spots.
There is often misinformation about heat treatments, and how they eliminate the need for chemical sprays altogether. This is not true. Please see this article from the British Pest Control Association which details within heat treatment you should still expect to receive “the application of safe insecticidal sprays with strong residual qualities and the use of dusts”
Live Bed Bugs found in the same place on a pillow - these were eradicated immediately by Superheated Dry Steam.
How We Work
Superheated Dry Steam lets us reach the cold spots that standard heat treatment can’t effectively treat.
This is followed by a chemical (insecticide) residual spray to provide ongoing protection. It helps guard against any remaining Bed Bugs that may have been missed.
We operate by utilising Superheated Dry Steam technology, which propels steam at a staggering 180°C. It’s a dry steam that eliminates all bed bugs and eggs the moment the steam makes effective contact.
While whole-room heat treatments attempt to warm the entire space and can leave cold spots where the heat fails to penetrate, we prefer to get right into the thick of it with focused, high-temperature steam. When we say we treat every nook and cranny of your room, we mean it — as bed bugs hide and harbour in tiny gaps after a feed, seeking to escape the host.
One missed bed bug laying eggs can lead to an unsuccessful treatment, so we meticulously inspect and treat all likely hiding places and leave no stone unturned.
This is then followed up by an insecticide residual spray applied throughout the necessary areas. We can never underestimate the resilience of bed bugs, so it is vital to treat all affected spaces thoroughly to ensure the most efficient and complete eradication possible.
Did you know that all of our Bed Bug quotes include inspection and treatment of the entire affected room? Far too often only the bed and the immediate surrounding area are treated, but the problem can extend beyond those obvious spots — and sadly it’s not always that simple (we wish it were!).
All of our visits include a detailed report with photos. Because we use insecticides, you must not be in the treated rooms while work is carried out. We know this can be unsettling since you can’t watch the work as it happens, so to reassure you we document the process with photographs and email them to you when the job is finished — all at no extra charge.
WHEN WE SAY NO STONE LEFT UNTURNED, WE MEAN IT — we even treat inside the electric sockets using a safe, purpose-designed insecticide dust for thorough protection.
What are Bed Bugs?
Ever unsure whether you’re dealing with a bed bug or something else? Scroll back to the top of this page to find details on how to send us clear photos of your suspected pest for a FREE online inspection.
Bed bugs are small, flat, reddish-brown insects that hide during the day and feed on human blood at night. Adults are about the size of an apple seed, while young nymphs can be as small as a poppy seed. They are easily introduced through luggage, furniture, clothing and shared accommodation.
We know from online searches you either find perfect laboratory testing examples or blurry images, so to help with your investigation we’ve included several real, in‑the‑field examples that show practical, everyday conditions.
Normally infestations are detected much earlier than in these examples, so hopefully yours won’t be as severe.
Example of Bed Bugs and their moults, as they grow they shed their skin similar to snakes. Here are also some faces/blood spotting which look like black tipped felt pen.
Common signs of bed bugs include:
Small dark spots or blood marks on bedding or mattresses
Itchy bites, often in lines or clusters
- Bed bugs feed quickly and prefer exposed skin near body heat, so they rarely bite through clothing. If bites appear UNDER NIGHTWEAR CLOTHING ONLY, see your GP.
- Similarly, if you only have bites on your legs, this could be fleas. See our flea webpage for more information.Shed skins or tiny white eggs around bed frames, furniture and skirting
A musty, sweet odour in heavier infestations
If you notice any of these signs, professional treatment is strongly recommended. DIY and off-the-shelf products often make the problem worse and can spread the infestation.
